Student Self-Allocation in Sonia

Introduction

Students have two options for allocating, or assigning, themselves to a placement site.

1. Source their own placement and report it using the Create placement option
2. Self-allocate from a list of opportunities

Using the "Create placement" option

Use this option if students are empowered to find a placement on their own and report it to the Placement team.

To activate this setting, follow these steps:

1. Go to either School Options > Placements OR open the placement group > Settings button > Placement Settings, depending on if this setting is for all placement groups or just select ones
2. In the Editing section, check the box for "Students can create placements"

Using the "Self-select" option

1. Open the placement group > Details page
2. In the Key Event section, click the green +
3. Select the "Students can allocate themselves" event
4. Enter the appropriate dates for them to be able to do this
5. Ensure the "Visible to students" and "Allocations finalized to students" settings are selected on the Details page, as well
6. Save the placement group
