Sonia Online: Managing Your Site’s Placement Availability

Introduction:

There are three ways sites can notify the university of the number of placement slots they have available:

• Confirming placement requests
• Advertising
• Offers

The university may ask you to do the following:

1. Confirm capacity for students at a specific academic level.
Example: Confirm you can take two Level 1 students in Semester 1.
They ask you to confirm availability.

2. Advertise availability for a specific level and term.
You inform the university that you have an opening for a student at a certain level.

3. Create a general offer for students of any academic level.
Example: You can host three students total, regardless of level.
You signal that you can take students of any level.

Confirming a Placement Request

1. Click on the Placements tab.

• On this page, you will see a list of “placement groups”.
  • A placement group is how the university groups together.
    • Example: Students of a particular academic course doing their internships/placements during a specific period.

1. In the screenshot below, you will see that the University is requesting you take one Level 1 student and one Level 3 student.
   1. You can change the number of students you can host in the “Confirm” box.
   2. You can add an optional comment for the Field Education Office.
2. Click the Confirm or Reject button.

Advertising Placement Availability

Using the example that you can host exactly three Level 1 students, one Level 2 student, and three Level 3 students.

• you would click the green Advertise button to notify the Field Education Office of exactly how many students you can accommodate from each placement group.
• This will take you to another page where you can give more details about the open positions.

Using the “Offers” Option

With Offers, your request can span ACROSS placement groups.

As an example, let's say:

1. You can accommodate seven students, and they can come from any placement group BUT
2. You want at least one of the students to come from Level 3.

Click on the Offers tab. You now have 2 options:

1. Click the Create button at the right.
2. Copy a previous Offer.

3. Indicate the following:

• • Which students you can accommodate in the upcoming year in the “Description” box
  • Placement dates
  • The total number of students you can host
  • The shift (if applicable)

4.  Answer any additional questions

5.  SAVE (at the right end of the blue bar)

The Field Education Office will be notified as soon as you click Save.
