Item Tags

Overview

Item Tags in SharpCloud are used to group and filter items based on shared characteristics, scenarios, or themes. They provide a flexible way to categorise items that may belong to multiple groups, similar to a Venn diagram approach.

Tags are particularly useful when items need to be associated with multiple values (e.g., markets, regions, or themes) without creating numerous attributes. However, tags cannot be used as axes in views, so attributes should be used where structured plotting is required.

When to Use Tags

• When items belong to multiple categories simultaneously

• When creating flexible groupings without adding many attributes

• When filtering items by themes, scenarios, or conditions

Adding and Managing Tags

Tags can be added or updated in several ways:

• Predefined in Story Setup

  •

• Added via Data Grid (including pasted Excel data)

  •

• Edited directly within the Item Edit Panel

Tag Groups

Tag Groups allow you to organise tags into meaningful categories, making them easier to manage and filter.

• Assign tags to groups in Story Setup

• Display selected tag groups in Interactive Filters

•

• Collapse or expand groups for easier navigation

•

• Highlighted groups indicate active filters

Tag Groups can also be applied to relationships and are automatically created when importing structured data (e.g., Excel columns formatted as Tags.GroupName).

Filtering Using Tags

1. Enable Tags in the Interactive Filter

2. Select the desired Tag Groups

3. Apply one or more tags using AND, OR, or NOT logic

Tags can also be toggled directly within an item’s tag panel.

Importing Tags from Excel

• Use column format Tags.GroupName to create grouped tags

• Use Tags as a column header for ungrouped tags

• Multiple tag group columns can be included in a dataset

  •

Working with Collapsible Tag Groups

After assigning multiple Tags the same Tag Group Name in the Data Grid/Story Setup, the grouped Tags will roll-up and sit under the same label in every view.

Tags grouped by three label headings:

1. Business Impact
2. Driver
3. Market

Selected tags are highlighted in blue, indicating that one or more tags within the group are actively applied to filter the data in the view.

Click on the Tag Group to expand and view the list of Tags associated with this group.

You can select individual tags to apply specific filters, or choose the entire tag group to apply all associated tags at once.
