Click Events in SharpCloud

 

Overview

Click events enable custom navigation from items or widgets in your story to other locations, both within and outside SharpCloud. They are commonly used in dashboard or portal-style views to link users to relevant content, views, or related stories.

By default, clicking an item opens it to display its content panels. Applying a click event overrides this behavior, allowing the item or widget to navigate elsewhere instead.

Click events can link to:

• Another story

• A specific view in the current or another story

• A specific item in the current or another story

• A specific presentation in the current or another story

• A form in the current or another story

• An external website, file, or any URL

Creating a Click Event for Items

When a click event is applied to an item, its hover border changes to blue (instead of the default color).

To add a click event to an item:

1. Select the item

2. Open the Edit Panel on the right-hand side

3. Go to the Click Event sub-tab

4. Paste the target URL or select a view to link to

Creating a Click Event for Widgets

Widgets are commonly used for dashboards or landing pages and support custom navigation through click events.

To add a click event to a widget:

1. Open the Widget Panel on the right-hand side

2. Select the widget

3. Go to Advanced Settings

4. Paste the target URL or select a view

Widgets also allow you to customize the hover color, providing more flexibility than items.

Absolute and Relative URLs

Click events can use either absolute or relative URLs.

Absolute URLs are full web addresses and can link to any location, including external sites or specific stories.

Relative URLs reference elements within the current story, such as views, items, or presentations. These are especially useful when moving stories between SharpCloud instances, as they remain valid even when story IDs change.
