Define Distributions Dialog Shows Empty Tabs

Issues:

1. When I click Define Distributions, the top part of the dialog is normal, and I can see the names of the tabs. But the tabs themselves are empty — there are no pictures of distributions.
2. StatTools Crash On Most of my Menu Selections.

Root Cause:
Your SharpGrid control is not functioning properly.  This can inpact @RISK and most StatTools dialogs.

 

• Possible causes include:

  • The SharpGrid control is misregistered or missing

  • The control is corrupted

  • A Windows setting (such as Data Execution Prevention, DEP) prevents it from running

  Other symptoms of this issue may include:

• Missing statistics grids in Browse Results

• Crashes in StatTools dialogs

• “Invalid access to memory location” errors when starting @RISK

 

Fix Procedure (requires full administrative rights):

Step 1: Close Excel and Project

• Make sure no Excel or Project windows are open.

Step 2: Open an administrative command prompt

• A regular command prompt is not sufficient; you must run as administrator.

Step 3: Check if SharpGrid files exist

• Enter the following command:

  cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Data Dynamics\Sharpgrid" && dir c:sg20*
  

• If you get “cannot find the path” or similar, try:

  cd "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Data Dynamics\Sharpgrid" && dir c:sg20*
  

• If neither command finds the folder, or if sg20u.ocx does not appear, repair your software and test @RISK.

Step 4: Re-register SharpGrid

• If sg20u.ocx is present, it may be misregistered. Enter:

  regsvr32 sg20u.ocx
  

• You should see a pop-up:

  DllRegisterServer in sg20u.ocx succeeded.
  

• Test @RISK again.

Step 5: Check DEP settings (if needed)

• • If the command succeeded but @RISK is still not working, your Data Execution Prevention (DEP) settings may be blocking SharpGrid. SharpGrid cannot run under DEP, so DEP must be disabled for this component.
