Concurrent Network License Monitoring

Applies to: Concurrent Network software 6.x and up (FlexNet licensing, prior to August 2024)

Network Monitoring
Open Server Manager and click Status to view network license details.

For more details, click View in Advanced Options.

Concurrent License Status Details
Status is a pass-through from FLEXnet’s lmstat. It shows license files, the license service status, the Palisade vendor daemon, and each license count: licenses issued: 7 licenses in use: 3.

• Licenses issued is the total allowed concurrent users.

Licenses in use includes on-network users and borrowed licenses.

• Numbers may differ if the license service is restarted while licenses are borrowed.

Concurrent Licenses in Use
On-network users: Status line without ACTIVATED or linger indicates a user on the network.

• Username, computer name, date/time when license started is shown.

Borrowed licenses (certificate type): Line ends with linger and a number meaning seconds borrowed (divide by 86400 for days).

• Username, computer name, date/time borrowed is shown.

Borrowed licenses (activatable type / Trusted Storage):

• Status line begins with ACTIVATED LICENSE(S) → borrowed license.
• Computer name, date/time borrowed is shown.
• Restarting the license service may hide borrowed licenses in the status display.
  • Example: If you have a Concurrent network license for 5 users and:
    •  2 have borrowed it off the network and none are using it on network, then you may see:
      • licenses issued: 3, licenses in use: 0
      • The difference between the numbers is the number of licenses available

Concurrent License Usage History
The Status button shows current use, not usage history. 

To view the history, click View in Advanced Options → Notepad opens.

OUT lines indicate the software was launched.

IN lines indicate the license was released (Excel was closed or user unloaded the Add-in)

Activatable licenses: borrowing/returning are shown as IN/OUT with user ACTIVATED LICENSE(S).

Certificate licenses:

• Borrow is shown by an IN line immediately followed by and OUT line.
• Return is shown by a REMOVING line immediately followed by IN line.

Enterprise License Status
Status button shows activated users and allowed total.

To view the usage history: click View in Advanced Options → search by Activation ID.

Each Destination System Name line = an activated client.

End-user License Info
End users cannot see who is using network licenses. Only server administrators can view this.

License Denials
Message displayed if all seats are in use. For FLEXnet access controls, see Troubleshooting License Denials in Access Control in Concurrent Network.
